GENERAL OBSERVATIONS
MIDCO Global closed 2022 strong and has expanded production and manufacturing partners to meet our customer’s demand. With significant raw material shortages and lingering congestion from the pandemic we’ve increased our inventory in key product categories to continue offering a convenient ordering process. MIDCO continues to advise early ordering and/or sharing expected needs ahead of traditional schedules. MIDCO Global does not bill until items ship.
The 2023 winter has been variable across MIDCO domestic territories. Areas of the western United States have seen seasonally lower temperatures with increases in precipitation, while the central US and East have seen drought and increases in temperature.
Soybeans and corn production are down. Sugarcane is up. Citrus forecasts appear unchanged. Cotton consumption is down, but recent global policy changes appear to be signaling a changing market. Winter wheat seedlings are up, while sorghum/grain production is down from 2022.
Internationally, southern Europe has seen improvements to drought conditions, however, overall the European winter has been mild/warmer than averages creating concern with crop yields. The Russia-Ukraine war continues to affect fertilizer shortages.
In South America, November brought high temperatures with little rainfall causing concern for corn and soybeans crops. Middle to late Jaunary 2023 crop conditions have improved with a series of cold fronts and good rainfall. Forecasts for February do not expect needed rainfall to continue.
In Africa, West & Central regions have seen cereal production 6% above 5-year averages. Poor rainfall and extreme drought in North Africa & East Africa have offered no relief to unprecedented poor farming conditions. These areas continue to see high levels of food insecurity and require humanitarian efforts to help communities avoid further loss of life.
Wheat and rice crops in Central and Southern Asia have been favorable, except in areas affected by floods.
ORDERING BEHAVIOR
Seasonal bulk orders continue to be placed ahead of schedule. This helps ensure product is received on time and that units are claimed within MIDCO’s system. There is increased demand in seed packet envelopes, pollinating bags, plot boxes, and cable ties. While we do our best to make sure the desired color and size you’re looking to buy is available, securing ahead of time is always best.
Our larger customers have continued to move to our private B2B shopping platform. MIDCO Global B2B allows businesses to set a customized catalog with preferred pricing that connects directly to their ERP system. Compatible systems include SAP Ariba, Jaggaer, SciQuest, Coupa, and more.
More small scale breeders are taking advantage of MIDCO Global’s printing service. The MIDCO MP44 Multimedia printer is an investment. Take advantage of the benefits of our printer without purchasing a printer by enrolling in our printing service. Print your company logo, barcodes, note descriptions, and more directly on your garden stake, pollinating bag, TriFold Seed Storage Envelope, seed packet envelope, and packaging order. Our printer is capable of printing on a variety of media and the customization enables your team to receive products personalized to your work process.
PRODUCTS IN DEMAND
Coming off the northern hemisphere winter season, the products most ordered are harvest materials. Cable ties and Harvest Tags are colorful products that can be used for labeling. Try our releasable cable ties for a reusable solution.
Mesh harvest bags and cabbage bags are also available in a variety of colors and sizes. Use these products to collect and store crops after harvest.
Seed packet envelopes are a core product of MIDCO Global. Customers have already started ordering their individual customizations for the 2023 planting season. Customize seed packet size, color, perforation, adhesive, flap opening and more. MIDCO seed packets are constructed with premium paper and glue to increase durability and storage life. We strongly advise placing seed packet orders early. We maintain a regular seed packet inventory year round, however, increased lead times may apply to custom seed packet orders.
